I’m going to start BiggerSmall with a few posts about my favorite resources, books, tools, etc. for small business owners. First are my favorite educational resources. I’ve found the following resources to be absolutely indispensable in my entrepreneurial career, and I believe you will as well. Check them out, and absorb everything you can!
Links to each of these resources will remain permanently on the BiggerSmall blog roll to the right - that’s how much I love them.
Gazelles- This is the site of Verne Harnish, founder of YEO and Birthing of Giants, and generally considered to be one of the biggest brains in the world of entrepreneurship and business growth. If you don’t already have one, you should buy his book as well - Mastering the Rockefeller Habits. Read everything he writes, and most importantly…use it!
Great Game of Business - This is what got me started in entrepreneurship. Jack Stack, his story of entrepreneurial adventures, and the philosophy with which he operates his businesses (now numbering 40+!) are chronicled in his first book, The Great Game of Business - read it and get inspired!. This site takes everything he’s learned and puts it into tools and training for other business owners. I’ve had the good fortune of attending his two-day experience in Springfield, MO and learned a ton! Make it a priority to go.
E-Myth - This is a classic book and a fantastic website. Michael Gerber literally wrote the book on taking your business from a mom-and-pop shop that requires your constant attention to a business that will run, survive, and profit without your daily participation in the operations of the business. I’ve never been to any of his training programs, but I hear they are fantastic.
EO - Entrepreneurs’ Organization - Formerly known as YEO (Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization). This is a worldwide network of entrepreneurs, founded by Verne Harnish (see Gazelles above). It is a great way to meet fellow entrepreneurs, learn from the best teachers and speakers in the world, and keep your entrepreneurial spirit burning bright. I’ve recently joined - it’s a fantastic group.
Babson College- Babson has been ranked the number one school in the world for entrepreneurial education so many times in a row that I’m not even sure of the current count - but I think it’s about 14. They have fantastic resources, programs, and information for entrepreneurs.
